HASTELLOY® C-4 Welding Wire (ERNiCrMo-7) — TIG Filler Rod & MIG Wire Supplier in India

Nicorex Alloys is an ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certified Mumbai-based supplier of HASTELLOY® C-4 TIG rods and MIG welding wire. We provide these wires classified under AWS A5.14 ERNiCrMo-7 (UNS N06455).

The weld deposit delivers approximately 16% chromium and 16% molybdenum with a nickel balance of roughly 65%, and zero tungsten or niobium. This dual Cr-Mo balance resists both oxidising and reducing chemical environments. Prolonged exposure of conventional Ni-Cr-Mo weld deposits between 650 and 1038 °C (1200–1900 °F) can trigger harmful intermetallic phases such as µ-phase and P-phase. HASTELLOY C-4 welding wire avoids this problem through a tungsten-free Ni-Cr-Mo chemistry that delivers superior thermal stability in this critical temperature band, maintaining ductility and corrosion resistance under extended high-temperature service. Hastelloy C-4 weld metal has a tensile strength of about 110 ksi (758 MPa) and 40–50% elongation, so it stays ductile even after repeated heating and cooling. It is compatible with P-43 Ni-Cr-Mo alloys and is suitable for welding to stainless steels and carbon steels.

Hastelloy C-4 welding wire is used in high-temperature chemical plants, nuclear fuel reprocessing, heat treatment fixtures, and corrosion‑resistant overlay cladding on steel. It is typically welded using GTAW (TIG) or GMAW (MIG), with no preheating or post‑weld heat treatment required. Nicorex Alloys supplies this wire with EN 10204/3.1B mill test certificates, PMI checks, and full heat‑lot traceability as per ASME SFA 5.14.

Chemical Composition of ERNiCrMo-7 Weld Deposit (%)

The chemical composition of ERNiCrMo-7 Weld Deposit, along with its proportions, is listed in the table below.
Nickel (Ni) Chromium (Cr) Molybdenum (Mo) Iron (Fe) Carbon (C) Silicon (Si) Manganese (Mn) Cobalt (Co) Titanium (Ti) Phosphorus (P) Sulphur (S) Tungsten (W) Niobium (Nb)
Balance (∼65) 14.0–18.0 14.0–17.0 3.0 max 0.015 max 0.08 max 1.0 max 2.0 max 0.70 max 0.04 max 0.03 max Not permitted Not permitted
Combined with very low C (0.015% max) and Si (0.08% max), these restrictions make C-4 the most thermally stable of all C-type alloys. The weld HAZ stays free of sensitisation even under slow cooling.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the price of Hastelloy C-4 (ERNiCrMo-7) Welding Wire per kg in India?
ERNiCrMo-7 is a premium Ni-Cr-Mo filler priced above standard stainless steel consumables. Cost per kg depends on diameter, form, order quantity, and current nickel market rates. Contact Nicorex Alloys for a competitive quotation.
Thermal stability is the primary advantage. C-4 contains zero tungsten, so it avoids µ-phase and P-phase precipitation in the 650–1038 °C range. C-276 contains 4% tungsten, which makes it more likely to form these harmful TCP phases during long exposure to high temperatures. This causes the alloy to become brittle and less corrosion-resistant.
P-43 applies to Ni-Cr-Mo alloys that contain more than 31% nickel. ERNiCrMo-7 filler carries F-43 and A-11 per ASME Section IX Tables QW-432 and QW-442.
Yes. Nickel-base fillers prevent dilution cracking at dissimilar interfaces. ERNiCrMo-7 suits joints between C-4 and 304, 316, or 317 stainless steels and carbon steel substrates.
No PWHT is required. The ultra-low C (0.015% max) and Si (0.08% max) content prevents HAZ sensitisation. If maximum corrosion performance is needed after heavy cold work, a solution anneal at 1066 °C (1950 °F) followed by water quench may be applied.
SAW can be used for Ni-Cr-Mo alloys, but it is not recommended. Its high heat input can cause the weld metal to segregate and increase the chance of hot cracking.
Standard spool weights are 15 kg (33 lb) and 12.5 kg. Custom spool sizes and bulk reels are available on request from Nicorex Alloys.
